How to check a car battery using voltmeter.

1. Turn off the ignition.
2. Remove the terminal cover of the battery.
3. Get your voltmeter.
4. Connect the positive end of your voltmeter to the positive end of the car battery. The positive end of the voltmeter usually marked red.
5. Connect the negative end of your voltmeter to the negative end of the car battery.
6. Check the voltmeter. Usually, the potential difference of car battery vary between 12.4 to 12.7 volts. A lower reading means that your battery needs to be charged. A higher reading means that you have to remove some of the excess potential difference.
